NCBI, or the National Center for Biotechnologyg Information is the main innovator in bioinformatics, as it offers the biggest genomic databases on the planet, and is based in Northern America. NCBI also not only engages in its own research, it hands out grants to other scientists and facilites that want help with their research. (1)(1.1)

EBI, or the European Bioinformatics Institute, is essentially a clone to the NCBI, but based in the European continent. EBI offers the same services as NCBI, such as sequencing DNA and training more and more people in the field of genomic research. (1)(1.1)

Duke university, known for its amazing academic excellence, is another innovator that provides tons of research, as well as training in the fields of bioinformatics.
